July Networking Tips: Engagement

Networking can be awkward for everyone - yes, even for your Member Relations social butterflies, Cate and Scott! For that reason, we will offer basic networking tips every month to help you prepare for events, quell your anxieties, and learn to make the most of any networking opportunity.

Remember, it’s all about building community and making connections that inspire deeper conversations!

Engagement:

Ask questions. The only way to get to know someone is to ask them genuine and thoughtful questions. Open-ended questions are often more effective: questions that ask who, what, where, when, why and how as opposed to those that can be answered with a simple yes or no.

Try to engage others to speak more than you; not only will they feel positive about the conversation, but you’ll have more information for future networking. The Boulder Chamber is its own ecosystem and we are all here to be more involved and engaged in our local community.

Practice introducing people who may not know each other. This is a great way to make others feel comfortable when starting a conversation.
