Boulder Chamber to Host Virtual Boulder Star Lighting Event on Veterans Day

Boulder, Colorado – October 20, 2023 – The Boulder Chamber invites you to welcome the holiday season at our 2023 Boulder Star Lighting Ceremony on November 11. The virtual event will begin on the Boulder Chamber YouTube Channel at 6:00 P.M. Our partner, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP), reminds everyone to view the star from afar as the Boulder Star area on Flagstaff Mountain is closed to protect sensitive natural wildlife habitats in the area.

The annual lighting of the Boulder Star is a commemoration of the holiday season and rings in a season of hope, generosity, and inspiration as the star shines brightly over Boulder. This year marks the 76th anniversary of the Boulder Star’s first lighting on Flagstaff Mountain in December 1947. Notably, the Boulder Chamber lights the Boulder Star on Veterans Day as a tribute to servicemembers, both active duty and retired, who play a critical role in ensuring our freedoms.

“The chance to recognize the service of our military veterans, coupled with the traditional kickoff to the holiday season, is an honor that the Boulder Chamber shares with our City of Boulder partners and the entire Boulder community,” said Boulder Chamber President and CEO John Tayer. “As the nights get darker, may the shining light of the Boulder Star brighten the evening for all our residents and visitors and fill them with the warmth of the holiday season.”

The Boulder Star Lighting Ceremony will begin at 6:00 P.M. here: 2023 Boulder Star Lighting Ceremony.

In addition to the color guard presentation and comments from local dignitaries, this year’s lighting ceremony will feature a stirring tribute to the Boulder Star produced by award-winning composer and University of Colorado professor Jeff Nytch. This musical piece, titled “The Beacon,” will receive a full orchestral debut with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra during its November 12 performance. More information and tickets are available here: Visions of a Brighter Tomorrow - Boulder Philharmonic.

The Boulder Chamber is proud of its role as the steward of this community asset and is thankful for the support received through sales of the Boulder Star Card and Star Wine and the generosity of our sponsor, Nesheim’s, who play a major role in keeping the Boulder Star shining bright. The Boulder Chamber also acknowledges its partnership in the upkeep of the Boulder Star with the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks staff team.
