Colorado Coalition Submits Strong Proposal to Host Sundance Film Festival
June 26, 2024
On Thursday, June 20, the State of Colorado announced plans on behalf of the Boulder Convention and Visitors Bureau (Visit Boulder) and a regional coalition of partners, including the City of Boulder, the Boulder Chamber, the University of Colorado Boulder, and the Stanley Film Center, to submit a proposal today to host the Sundance Film Festival in Boulder, Colorado starting in 2027.
The official announcement follows the state approval of a $1.5 million incentive to attract the independent film festival.
When asked about this unique opportunity to showcase Colorado's rich history and what Boulder brings to the table with this bid, John Tayer, President and CEO of the Boulder Chamber, said, "While our mission aligns most clearly with the substantial economic benefits of hosting the Sundance Film Festival, we also relish the opportunity it offers to showcase Boulder's rich arts and cultural assets, as well as our community’s commitment to achieving economic vitality goals in harmony with social equity and environmental values."
Tayer's comments mirror the sentiments of Governor Jared Polis, OEDIT Executive Director Eve Lieberman, CEO of Visit Boulder Charlene Hoffman, and Colorado Film Commissioner Donald Zuckerman, celebrating the opportunity to highlight Colorado's rich arts history.
An official release from the Governor's Office and OEDIT includes more from business, community, and education leaders.
