Leadership Fellows Boulder County Request For Proposal: Facilitator Contractor

Project Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced facilitator to lead specific sessions of the Leadership Fellows Boulder County. Program sessions are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 12-5 pm running January through September.

The facilitator will work closely with the Programs Team on the January, February, and September sessions, and attend monthly planning meetings as needed. The facilitator will play a crucial role in creating an engaging and supportive learning environment for program participants, centered on equity and inclusion.

Location: Hybrid with in-person sessions in Boulder County

Duration: 1099 Contracted Position October 2024 - September 2025. Estimated 40-50 hours over the course of the year. Option to be renegotiated annually. 

Budget: Up to $7,500, depending on experience.

About the Program and Organization: Leadership Fellows Boulder County Program is a collaborative initiative between the Boulder Chamber (BC) and Community Foundation Boulder County (CFBC). Our program aims to develop inclusive and equitable leaders who will make a positive impact in Boulder County.

This program provides 25-30 emerging and transformational leaders from across varying sectors a broad understanding of Boulder County’s economic, civic, and cultural drivers. Meeting for 5 hours each month, we feature facilitated conversations with current leaders from profit and non-profit businesses, civic leaders, and various sectors within  Boulder’s business landscape. We emphasize building networks and learnings that will launch potential leadership and board roles.

Scope of Work and Project Deliverables:

  • Session Planning and Delivery:
    • Develop session agendas in collaboration with BC & CFBC staff, ensuring a focus on leadership development with an equity lens.
    • Facilitate interactive and thought-provoking sessions encouraging self-reflection, collaboration, and community engagement.
    • Incorporate experiential learning activities, case studies, and group discussions to enhance participant engagement and understanding of equity-focused leadership principles.
    • Ensure sessions align with program educational goals and objectives based on transformational and inclusive leadership practices.
  • Participant Engagement and Support:
    • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where participants feel empowered to share their experiences and perspectives, particularly those from underrepresented communities.
    • Provide guidance and feedback to participants to support their growth and development as leaders with a focus on inclusive and transformational leadership.
    • Encourage collaboration and networking among participants, emphasizing the importance of building diverse and inclusive networks.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate closely with BC and CFBC staff to ensure seamless coordination and implementation of sessions, with a strong emphasis on equity and inclusion.
    • Communicate effectively with program staff, fellows, and guest speakers to coordinate logistics and resources, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all participants.
    • Provide updates and feedback to staff to inform program improvement and development, with a focus on advancing equity and social justice.

Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience facilitating leadership development programs based in equity and inclusion.
    • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and facilitation techniques, particularly in the context of transformational and inclusive leadership or previous experience in community organizing, coalition building, and mobilization, particularly within diverse and underrepresented communities.
    • Demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice, with a track record of advancing inclusive practices and policies.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire participants from diverse backgrounds.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of diverse participants and address complex issues related to equity and inclusion.
    • Preferably a resident of or someone who works in Boulder County, with an understanding of the needs and landscape of the Boulder County community.

Ideal candidates have an established and diverse network across sectors (private, government, non-profit, and community resources) in Boulder County

  • Describe a time when you facilitated a transformative learning experience for a diverse group of individuals. How did you approach the facilitation process to encourage personal growth and collective development? (Max 500 words)
  • What guiding principles do you follow to ensure your leadership and facilitation practices are inclusive and promote equity? Please give an example of how you have applied these principles in your professional experience. (Max 500 words)

Applications will be reviewed on Sept 30th. Below is our hiring and interview timeline:

  • Initial phone screenings: Oct 14th -  Oct 25th
  • First interview (in-person) with the key staff: Oct 28th - Nov 8th
  • Final interviews with key staff, including a short facilitation demonstration: Nov 11th - Nov 15th
  • Final decision: End of November
