It’s often said that two heads are better than one, and when it comes to Boulder’s creative industry and business community, the same rule applies. With this idiom in mind, the Boulder County Film Commission and the Boulder Area Chamber of Commerce have decided to team up for what feels like a local version of Steven Spielberg joining forces with George Lucas.
Officials said the merger, approved in late October, will bolster support for the city’s growing film and creative industries while also paving the way for major opportunities — such as, perhaps, attracting the Sundance Film Festival to Boulder.
“The film and creative industries are such an important part of our economic ecosystem,” said John Tayer, CEO and president of the Boulder Chamber. “We want to make sure this industry has all the support it needs to thrive here. It’s not just about economic contributions, it’s about advancing the cultural arts and shaping Boulder’s identity within the film industry.”
For Boulder County Film Commissioner Bruce Borowsky, the merger represents the next step in a three-year journey to build a cohesive creative community in Boulder.
“When I started, there wasn’t really an organized creative community,” Borowsky said. “So I began hosting events to bring people together.”
