Ambassador Spotlight: Jenny Desmond

Meet Jenny!

Jenny Desmond works for Vive Más Tours, helping travelers 55 and older experience the vibrant cultures of Cuba and Colombia. Her favorite part? Hearing travelers say, “This place is nothing like I expected!” and knowing she played a part in shifting their perspective.

Perhaps her love for travel—and birds—comes from her roots. A farmer’s daughter from Weld County, Jenny spent her childhood taking care of chickens and selling eggs to her third-grade teacher. Years later, she found her calling in community work, joining Intercambio in 2010 to help volunteers teach English to immigrants in Boulder County.

But her story really goes back to the Boulder County Jail in 1995. Buy her a cup of coffee at Ozo, and she just might share the rest!

What is your favorite thing about Boulder (or Colorado)?

Chautauqua. I love a good hike with my husband, Steve, and our Jack Russell, Snoopy.

How long have you been a Boulder Chamber Ambassador?

Starting year two.

What is your favorite thing about being an Ambassador?

One of the people I met was Lori Kwasnick, owner of Front Range Birding and Optics. We created a partnership and they are hosting a birdwatching tour in Cuba next fall with us. It’s been a fun mutual partnership, I might never have made the connection if I wasn’t an ambassador.

What other ways are you involved with the Boulder Chamber?

I enjoy the nonprofit and BWLG groups, and I was in the Leadership Fellows program in 2020-2021.

What is your favorite Boulder Chamber event, and why?

You can find me helping at 6 am on Bike-to-Work day in the summer, before I take off on my own bike to tour the town. Even though I no longer have an office outside my home, I bike to a coffee shop to work that day!

What’s your favorite hobby?

Birdwatching in May, when all the birds have migrated back from Colombia and they’re singing and building their nests.

What is your favorite snack?

Club crackers and sharp cheddar cheese. I’m a simple girl.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I love board games and cards. Every night in our house there’s at least one round of Settlers of Catan or Wingspan.
