Over 70 Years of Tradition

2023 marks the 76th anniversary of the Boulder Star on Flagstaff Mountain. The beloved Boulder Star on Flagstaff Mountain was first lit in December 1947 and has made its holiday appearance every year since.

The Boulder Chamber is proud of its role as the steward of this community asset and thankful for the support it receives, through sales of the Boulder Star Card, Star Wine, and the generosity of other partners, to keep the Boulder Star shining bright.

Help Support the Boulder Star

Celebrate our local history and tradition while bringing a smile to the faces of everyone on your holiday mailing list!

The 2023 Star Card design was created by local artist Daria Chechushkova. Daria was born and grew up in the City of Vladimir, Russia, where she learned to appreciate picturesque medieval architecture. Along with a master's degree in ancient history, she developed her passion for painting by creating local postcards and tourist guides. In 2022, she came to the U.S. as an act of her disapproval of Russian imperialism and in an attempt to find her place in the free world. Follow her on Instagram @chechu_illustrator. A portion of the Star Card proceeds will go towards the ongoing care of the Boulder Star.

This year's Star Card retailers include*:

    • Art Source International - 1237 Pearl St, Boulder
    • Chautauqua General Store - 100 Clematis Dr, Boulder
    • Lucky's North - 3960 Broadway #104, Boulder
    • McGuckin Hardware - 2525 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder

NOW CLOSED: 2023 Call for Artists

The Boulder Chamber seeks to commission a professional local artist, illustrator and/or designer in association with Boulder County Arts Alliance, to create an original image that it can license for the 2023 Boulder Star Holiday Card, a wine label, and possibly other items. Sale of items that carry the original image support the Boulder Chamber’s stewardship of the beloved Boulder Star.

The selected artist will receive $1,000 under the terms of a license agreement to create an image of the Boulder Star that is reflective of Boulder. Fresh interpretations of iconic Boulder imagery are welcomed. To learn more, visit here.

Important Reminder

The City of Boulder and the Boulder Chamber reminds everyone to view the Boulder Star from afar as it remains closed. No designated trail currently leads to the Boulder Star, which sees large gatherings during the winter.

The star is located on steep terrain that has sustained significant plant and erosion damage because of increasing visitation over the years, leading to numerous wildlife habitat disturbances. City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) invites community members to see the star from open space locations across the area: https://bit.ly/3bE67W0
